17 injured in stampede to buy bargain laptops

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A rush to purchase $50 used laptops turned into a violent stampede Tuesday, with people getting thrown to the pavement, beaten with a folding chair and nearly driven over. One woman went so far as to wet herself rather than surrender her place in line.


This is totally outrageous. As funny as it is twisted, you have to imagine the horror of what the shop manager had to go through as this mob tried to squeeze through the door trying to get a laptop. When Tivo was giving away their boxes for free, there were people that waited patiently in line for about 2 hours. My co-worker got one and he said that there was an even bigger line behind him of people that probably would walk away empty handed. How many times have we gone to fry's (a Bay area geek heaven) to look for that 1 item out of a million was was marked down 99% on a friday morning? Maybe I've been disappointed enough that I realize that I will never be the one to find the needle in the haystack.

Something tells me that store in virginia won't be having another one of these "sales".
